At present the minimum basic salary under the 7th Pay Commission has been fixed at Rs 18,000. Basic salary of Group A officers has been fixed at Rs 56,100, while Group B officers get monthly salary of Rs 35,400. Basic salary for Group C staff is fixed at Rs 18,000.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of having more basic salary: In addition to the government, private companies, many times there is a big difference in basic salary of employees. Even though equal amount is transferred in the accounts of different employees, there are many times difference in their basic salary. If the basic salary of an employee is high, then he has to pay more tax because this part of salary is fully taxable. However, the amount of PF is decided by this, so there is an advantage on this front.

What is gross salary: The total salary that any employee gets is called gross salary, which has many components in the form of DA, HRA, basic salary and other allowances. It does not include deduction of income tax.
